Krista Ruby rocks the track for LaBici in 2010

Here is Krista doing a Madison workout at the Forest City Velodrome. This girl travels to London weekly to practice and make sure she is on the top of her game. That is a lot of travelling and a lot of asking friends and family in London for a nights stay. That is what it takes to be the best and it won't take her long with this kind of commitment to training, her time in traffic, extra money spent on gas and effort it takes just to get to the track. Proud to have her back racing for us in 2010!

Brian Lee...... Baby!

Forget about Bruce Lee, Tommy Lee, Jet Li..........we have Brian Lee!! POW! Brian is a great team mate and one of the nicest guys in the peloton. We are proud to have you back in 2010! Watch out for Brian and the entire LaBicicletta M1 Elite team this year......we have put together a quite the squad! Check out the picture above. That guy barely holding Brian's wheel rides for us too! He's pretty mean on a cross bike and he is rippin in up in Europe right now! Do you recognize him?

Kyle Rupay - Track update

I got word that Mr Kyle Rupay had quite the race on Saturday night down in London.
Kyle raced in the open age group and did well. He fought hard and never gave an inch.
He took a third, another third and missed the final 145 lap feature by one place in his semi final.(7th)
He was the youngest to get that far.

Here is the quote from the press release.

"In the semi final things began to heat up as some Juniors were sprinkled in by their performance in the heats. Young racer Kyle Rupay from Peterborough, soon became a crowd favourite. Kyle dangled off the back of the first Semi and continued to show guts and determination as lap after lap he got dropped and caught back on when the pace slowed. Although Kyle didn’t make it to the Final, he was always on the radar of the fans who appreciated his effort."

Next race is the Ont. Madison Championships on Dec. 12th.

Great job big man!!

LaBicicletta Elite Team 2010

We are working very hard behind the scenes this off-season to make sure we are the top team in Ontario next year. In order to make a run at Provincial and National titles in all the age categories you need some serious talent and I'm proud to say we secured some of the top riders in the province to add to our already stacked roster for 2010. Here is our latest recruit

Mr Dave Viney

Dave is a perfectionist who knows how to win. He is the 4x Master(50+) National Champ, Current Florida state TT, RR and Crit Champion (55+) and has won Ontario Titles in both the RR and the TT. I think this guy is the fastest 60 yr old on the planet and we are extremely proud to have him on the M1 Elite team in 2010!!

Are you training hard enough?

This is how it's done

Here is our Krista Ruby showing you all how it's done and why "she" is at the top of her game and "you" are struggling to keep up every season. If you can't push yourself on the trainer you won't be able to do it on the road. Here she is holding 470+ watts for a full minute at the end of a very hard interval. Oh.... and she hit an all time high heart rate too!! That is what training with another person is all about, you can't hide or quit and you get a way better workout because they are right there staring at you!!! Great work Krista!! Dr Phil

A big congrats goes out to Phil Palmer who came in second place last weekend at the Barrie cross at Hardwood hills. Great job big guy!!! Now Phil raced M3 which is a bit surprising considering I have a spot open for him on our M1 team???? but I'm sure there is a fantastic explanation why he was sand baggin (and still didn't win) : ) Can't wait to hear all about it dude!!

There are many benefits to joining LaBiciSquadra and here is one more........

Paulo Telisman

Here is a picture from Paul's trip to Italy recently. He sent me a picture of his bike (whoopy do!) and one of him and some crazy Italian background( Yawn! ) but when I saw this one I knew I had to post it. Here is Paul and his beautiful 94yr old grandma! What a cutie! Thanks for the pics dude! and thanks for being an amazing team mate the last two years! Not only have you been a great team mate you have helped the shop and the club immensely and I'm not sure if you know how much we appreciate it! I have tried to no avail to keep Paul racing with us next year but I'm going to keep trying. He says he needs a break and I say............(well lets leave it at that) When you see Paul give him a hard time and make sure to give him your two sense on his little retirement. Please let him know he is loved and needed on our team and has a spot on it next year if he changes his mind.

Canada's best! - Michael Barry

Congratulations to Canada's own Michael Barry!!! He finished 18th at the World championships held this past weekend!! Not only was he the top canuck he was also the top North American rider. Michael has some strong ties to the shop and this past spring was very generous and donated a signed team Columbia jersey to auction off to help support the Ontario youth cup. His Dad (Michael Barry Sr)also was a huge help donating tons of his time to putting on our very successful HELL OF THE NORTH race.

The Barry's are truly a class act and congrats to Micheal Jr for being Canada's best!!

LaBiciSquadra "The Bike Team"

Dear Club Members,

As the end of the cycling season rolls around we here at LaBiciSquadra would like to know what you think of the club and the job we did after a full season in existence. Like any start up project there definitely have been a few growing pains and we would like a bit of feedback on what in your eyes we can do to improve. We really do want to provide a great club for you and strive to meet and exceed your needs for next year. Please take a few moments to drop me a line at real.deal@rogers.com and tell me what you liked, disliked and what we should improve on for next year.

Thanks

15km Championship TT

Ficko wins!

We had an amazing turnout tonight for our 15km championship TT. 26 riders made it out tonight to try and take home the gold. The course had to be re-routed and shortened a bit but that didn't stop anyone from giving their all trying to take the title. With a north wind pushing the field home to the finish it was an extremely fast night with little or no places to make up time. If you didn't hammer the uphill start you would need to push more than a 58 tooth front chain ring to keep up with our winner. With the provincial TT only 2 weeks away, Darko Ficko came out tonight and showed everyone he is in fine form and ready to rip the heavy weight belt from around Ryan Roth's waist.

Gold goes to Darko Ficko with a 48.6 avg speed on the 12.5 km course and a time of 15.26. Silver goes to IIija Petrovski with a 48.3 km avg and a time of 15:31 and the bronze goes to Ed Veal with an average speed of 48kms an hour and 12 seconds behind with a time of 15:38. Bryan Wolfe had the fastest 15km TT of the entire season and has a medal to prove it but..... was 5 seconds off the podium tonight! Oh ya.....check out Merrill's time too, I see a few provincial golds in this line up!!

Congratulations guys and good luck at the provincial TT!!

Without you there is no TNTT and we really appreciate the effort you put in and support you give it by showing up and making it what it is. I would also like to thank our sponsors, the Midweek cycling club and LaBiciSquadra cycling club. We will be looking for a title sponsor next year to help out our clubs so if your interested in supporting local cycling or know someone who is please contact me about our 2010 series. TNTT - August 13th

David Chong and Rob Anderson (In photo)

Tonight was as beautiful a night as we have had all year. We had 20 riders turnout to test themselves against the GTA`s best. The wind was slightly out of the south which is perfect for this Stouffville course. The problem was that there was dirt and sand from construction on one of the corners that took away from the perfect conditions. Thanks to everyone for taking it easy and not putting themselves in harms way, even with having to take it a bit easier Ilija Petrovski (Wheels of Bloor) went under the 20 minute mark posting a very solid 19:50 to take the win tonight. We had a few new faces out tonight and two of them got into the top 5, congrats to David Pierce (5th) with a 21:43 and Ryan Hodgkinson (4th) with a 21:40. Both these guys were flying their Bikesports team colors with pride making Tom back at the shop very proud!! Great job everyone!!

Osmosis

Check out www.realdealcoaching.blogspot.com for a laugh (at my last post not.....the fact that I want to be a coach : )

DEVIL of a ride!!

All summer long the club has been holding a "club ride" on Wednesday nights in Aurora. The turn out has been all over the map good and bad but only 3 to 5 most nights lately. In the early season when everyone was pumped to get out and ride there were a few rides where we had 9 and 10 people out all wearing our team colors!! Very cool! But the last few nights have been very weak and I'm starting to wonder where it all went wrong??

So from now on this "isn't" a Team/Club ride. No more turning people away, telling them it is club members only. If the club isn't interested in showing up I'm going to open this ride to the people who are.

So tomorrow night we are meeting at the Starbucks on Aurora Rd and the 404 hwy (Walmart plaza) Its a great spot with lots of parking, the coffee is delicious and a new Keg restaurant just opened up for anyone wanting to go for a beer afterwards. We meet around 5:45pm and leave the lot for our ride at 6pm. The riding is incredible 5 mins away from the plaza. Great pavement, awesome climbs and quit rural roads where you can ride side by side and chat before you stomp it up the next hill.

If you own a road bike and want to ride with some really great people on a beautiful Wednesday night, show up tomorrow at 6pm, introduce yourself and come along for the ride

TNTT - August 6th

Old photo but at least its Ed!

It was a beautiful August night but the wind just wasn't blowing the right way! After last weeks perfect conditions tonight just seemed...... SLOW!! A north wind isn't ideal on this course and the times sure reflect it, BU........T that didn't stop Ed Makarchuk from having his fastest time of the year and taking the win with a 20:35!! A crazy fast time into a head wind! Thanks to Rod McEwen for doing the timing and Judy Veal for taking care of the split times.

We will be having an end of season BBQ in the church parking lot on the 27th of August as well as our club championship 15km TT. This will be for all the marbles!! We will have medals for both categories (TT and Eddy Merckx) and Midweek and LaBiciSquadra will provide of all the food and maybe even a few cold beers! ( I said maybe : )

Thanks to everyone who came out tonight and please remember to help spread the word about our TNTT

Terra Cotta

A beautiful day, an easy race course and 200 entrants made for quite the day of racing this past Sunday. LaBicicletta was out in full force(well maybe half force) ready to take on the cycling world. After a few attempts at an early break away one finally stuck at the 4 lap mark. With a few heavy hitters in the mix I was very confident this one was going to stick. We worked together pretty good, shedding a few weak riders and gaining one who was strong enough to bridge up to the 6 of us. With one to go Darko makes his way into the mix after 3 long laps of trying to bridge up to us. Somehow after 2 years as teammates we still don't know how to ride together and use each others strengths to our advantage, we mess up the finish and take home 6th and 7th. Not the greatest finish and not the best way to enjoy a beautiful Monday morning.
The good news is Merrill once again came through with the win in the woman's senior 1-2 cat. Man does she look good as of late!! Thanks to the whole Bici crew that was in attendance, especially Neil Hendry for playing games and shutting things down while Darko and I were off the front.

Provincial Road Race

This past weekends provincial RR was brutal! The weather gods were not happy and the entire day was a mess of rain and t-storms. I don't know all the results but I do know Neil Hendry had a great day and I do know Merrill Collins is the 2009 Provincial road race champion!!

Congrats to everyone who stuck it out and finished, you should be proud because it was one hell of a day!!

TNTT- July 16th

Tonight our fastest was one of our steadfast regulars, Wheels of Bloor’s own Paolo Dilecce.
A beautiful evening, but unfortunately there was a crash. One of our riders suffered a skewer failure and went down, we are saddened to report. In good spirits on the way to the ER, one of our regulars Mr Paul Rea, seemed in a bit of pain but toughed it out only later to find out he had a hairline fracture in his right scapula( ouch!!!) We are happy to report his beautiful custom painted Colnago is in good spirits as well and survived the crash. ER doc (and 2008 M2 provincial TT champ) Bryan Wolff happened to be riding by and helped out. The 6 DNF’s include 5 riders who stopped to help out.
The Crash did not slow the remainder too much. We were pleased to welcome some new faces.
Weather was cloudy, 26C, wins WSW at 17kph.

Peterborough ITT

Not a bad day for those dressed in Bici colors, a lot of the crew had good results! Here is a pic that former a LaBicicletta team member (Mr Chris Atkins) messed with and sent my way.
Everyone is a comedian!
Congrats to Leigh Bianco on her 2nd place finish, Frank Stillo on his 3rd place finish, David Jack was 4th, Phil Palmer was 8th and of course the fish brothers snagged 2nd and 3rd.
